Biography
Little Lungs has never shied away from vulnerability. The Baltimore-based band, led by principal songwriter and lyricist Leena Rhodes, combines intimate and sincere lyricism with intricate guitar melodies and pulsating rhythms to create a sprawling universe of folk and indie rock. Backed by Brendan Russell (bass), Eli Simms (drums), Ricky Schwarzenberg (guitar), Little Lungs actualizes the obscure emotions you can’t quite explain: the innate feeling of absence; the flux of infatuation; the beauty of intoxication.
Little Lungs’ new record, The Heat, is their most cathartic offering yet, examining the love, loss, and rebirth left in the wake of a tumultuous and volatile relationship. With vivid imagery and decisive storytelling, Rhodes reckons with the freedom left in the wake of codependency, exploring what it means to craft her identity outside of another’s. She details a world that is both welcoming and private, inviting the listener to be a fly on the wall of her room. It is an unflinching account of loss and creation, equal parts tender and brutal, exploring what it means to embrace your past instead of running from it.
Their previous releases include three self-released EPs: Self-Titled EP (2017), Get Your Kicks and Go (2019), and Better In Blue (2021), and a full length record, The Sound That Sent Me Flying (2016).
